Abstract
The paper identifies manuscript Montagu e.4 in the Bodleian Library (University of Oxford) as the second half of manuscript Triv. 80 of the Biblioteca Trivulziana (Milan), which contains, in the initial pages, Giovanni Boccaccio's Trattatello in laude di Dante. Before being divided into two parts, the manuscript belonged to the painter Giuseppe Bossi (1777-1815), who used it as a source for the biography of Dante which prefaced the folio edition of the Divine Comedy, printed in Milan by Luigi Mussi in 1809. The comparison between Mussi's edition of the Trattatello, the manuscript text contained in Triv. 80 and its copy, in the hand of Giuseppe Bossi and now preserved in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana (Milan), makes it possible to clearly identify Bossi's working method as copyist and editor of ancient texts.
