Abstract
In the paper, some considerations are made on how the inflection system of the German adjective has been developed in the history of this language. A syntagmatic viewpoint, in which the totality of the phrase structure is taken into account, results as decisive, whereas the traditional paradigmatic perspective is of no use for the acquisition of the rule.
