Abstract
Criminal investigations benefit from AI applications, especially in terms of efficiency; though, various risks are related to the use of AI in law enforcement activity. Thus, the European Commission delivered a White Paper, in February 2020, launching a broad consultation on AI. The following analysis underlines some key issues about the use of AI in criminal investigations, addressing notably the fundamental rights of defence and data protection.
