Abstract
This paper analyzes the data of the students of a course of the Faculty of Economics at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, to find the determinants of the performance in Calculus and Financial Mathematics. We first analyze which `external', uncontrollable variables influence these grades (type of diploma, final high school mark, etc.). Then, we evaluate the impact on the grades in the exams of some methodological innovations, introduced by the Faculty or by the teachers (for example, compulsory attendance to lessons, a preliminary test to evaluate basic knowledge of Mathematics, use of an online platform for exercises). These variables are not always available in other studies.
