Abstract
The essay aims at framing the volume - the first of the Quaderni di Mediaeval Sophia series - in the context of researches on the practices of government based on consensus in the medieval age. This is a field of research practiced by the authors of the essays collected here, within which they also highlight the reasons for dissent in the face of different forms of power in the Mediterranean area.
