Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay gives news of the discovery of unpublished verses by the poet Giovan Battista Marino. The texts, a tribute to the singer and musician Livia d'Arco - active at the court of Ferrara and disappeared in 1610 - are part of a commemorative series in which the Neapolitan participated together to other famous colleagues such as Guarini, Testi, Rinuccini as well as Claudio Achillini and Giovan Battista Strozzi the Blind. The compositions, later dispersed, would have set up a 'mausoleum' in verse for the lady according to the intentions of Countess Livia degli Obizzi, sister-in-law of the most famous assistant of the Arco, Laura Peperara. To the four texts for Livia already known, included by Marino in the 'Lira', the essay adds a completely unpublished sonnet, and a second sonnet with unpublished variations. The Marinian texts are flanked by two unknown sonnets by Achillini and four by Strozzi, always in praise of the deceased.
