Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] What is the difference between the spectacle of pain and the theater of mercy? What are the mechanisms that underlie the representation of suffering and what relationship is there between reality and look? The Christian scene theory can offer an interesting interpretation. Through a brief historical and theoretical excursus the essay tries to give the cornerstones of the revolution of the gaze implemented by Christianity, fundamental today to understand the mechanisms that make the theater of the passion of Christ a responsible action of community and not an alienating spectacle of pain .
