Abstract
This collected book contains the proceedings of a conference held\r\nat Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan in September 2022.\r\nThe conference was an occasion of dialogue and discussion among\r\nseveral disciplines involved in the study of dystopias and their relevance\r\nin the contemporary scenario. The “Dystopian Worlds beyond\r\nStorytelling” project—involving political theorists, sociologists,\r\nhistorians, linguists, literature scholars, media, communications\r\nand performing arts researchers, and many others—was born\r\naround the convergence of multiple fields of analysis, signalling the\r\nheterogeneity and richness of the phenomena underlying the fears\r\nof contemporary societies and their representations and discourses\r\nin public debate and popular culture. The book is structured in five\r\nparts, each one expressing a particular point of view on the role of\r\ndystopias in the twenty-first century. These parts are not sectorial,\r\nsince our aim is to provide a transdisciplinary focus on the issue of\r\ndystopia in reading through the lens of a wide range of perspectives\r\nand extracting a pluralistic vision of such a complex theme.
