Abstract

The essay reconstructs the role of agrarian elites in the diffusion of agronomic knowledge and innovation in nineteenth-century Lombardy. The essay analyzes the activity of noble and bourgeois circles and then the rise of various initiatives such as "Comizi agarari" and "Società agrarie". The hypothesis of the research is that a propensity for the formation of human capital exists during the nineteenth century although a tendency to conservation is predominant as evidenced by Mario Romani.
