Abstract

An analysis of Francesco Cherubini's etymologies in the "Vocabolario milanese-italiano" (1814 and 1839-1843 editions) shows on the one hand his link with old etymological theories, on the other hand his prudence. In particular, when Cherubini deals with loanwords, one may often rely on him. The final lines of the article focus on the word "mazzacronegh".
